Exterior Game Changers

KEYLESS ENTRY

Keyless entry provides both convenient access and added security to my trailer. I wanted a quick, hassle-free way to get in, especially when it’s dark, without fumbling for keys. Plus, it eliminates the worry of losing them altogether.

VENT COVER/RAIN SHROUD

Moisture is always a concern in a travel trailer, and I wanted to be able to use my vent fan even during inclement weather. This cover fit perfectly on the vent and was a breeze to install. Just be sure to confirm the exact model of your trailer's vent before purchasing. The first one I bought didn’t fit correctly.

ENTRY DOOR WINDOW

Tired of not being able to see out of your exit door because of the frosted glass? Or maybe you don't like how the window doesn’t match the other windows in your trailer? There’s an easy fix! This window comes with a built-in shade, and it only took me 30 minutes to replace the existing one. I installed it upside down so I can keep the shade slightly open for visibility while maintaining privacy. Just a heads-up: because of the screen door, the shade can only be adjusted when the door is open.

TONGUE ORGANIZER

Not sure how to store your safety chains, brake cable and wiring harness when setting up? Here’s the perfect solution! This model is made of metal, making it much more heavy-duty and durable compared to the plastic versions. And, this 7-way plug cover protects the wiring harness from the elements.

HITCH DOCKING STATION

When I'm not towing my trailer, I didn’t want to leave the hitch on my towing vehicle, nor did I want to store it in the basement. The hitch is heavy, and I didn’t want to risk damaging the basement by constantly taking it in and out. This DIY docking station is the perfect solution. Though the receiver is designed for a 4" bumper, I installed it on the tongue instead, and it works flawlessly.

DINETTE BENCH STORAGE ACCESS

I wanted to be able to access the storage under the bench seat without having to lift the cushions. I removed the panel on the side and installed a door. See DIY Solution for Your Dinette Storage for a complete guide on how I did this.

Interior Game Changers

DINETTE "DAYBED/LOVESEAT"

The foam in the dinette bench cushions is pretty much useless—it’s so thin that your bum sinks straight to the wood! Luckily, the cushion covers are zippered, so it's easy to replace the foam with something more supportive.

I wanted to transform my dinette into a loveseat/daybed, so I found a slipcover that fits all four bench cushions, turning them into one long, comfy surface. This slipcover is machine washable, incredibly soft, and stays in place thanks to its elastic bottom. Plus, it comes in 26 colors! I chose the large size in light grey, which complements the 16BH interior perfectly.

CLOTHING & FOOTWEAR STORAGE

I don’t typically travel with hanging clothes, so I wanted to make the most of the cabinet space next to the bed with an affordable, simple solution. I found a hanging shelf organizer that fits perfectly in the cabinet, providing a great space for tops and bottoms. Since there’s no drawer storage for socks, bras, and panties, I utilized the cabinet door with hanging containers. After trying several options, I finally found ones that fit the door width without interfering with the hanging storage. I also added a motion-activated, USB-rechargeable LED light for added convenience.

As for shoe storage in the 16BH—if you relocate the fire extinguisher, this shoe rack can be mounted on the open wall. Depending on the type of shoes, I can store 4 to 6 pairs. I secured it with alien tape and small, short screws, making it both sturdy and space efficient.

DIY STOVE/SPLATTER GUARD

As much as I love the 16BH, I’m not a fan of how the stove is positioned right next to the bed. Let’s be real—who can cook without some splatter? To solve this, I created a detachable splatter guard using plexiglass and holders. I mounted one on the wall to keep it securely in place while cooking, and attached the remaining ones underneath to stabilize the guard. It’s been a simple but effective solution!

SHOWER UPGRADES

To make the shower more comfortable and functional, I replaced the shower valve, showerhead, shower rod, and added a shower caddy.

The original two-knob valve made it difficult to find the right temperature, resulting in wasted water and filling up the grey tank too quickly. Switching to a single-handle valve solved this issue, and it was super easy to install.

With long hair, rinsing out shampoo with the original showerhead was a time-consuming process that used a lot of water. This new showerhead has significantly improved water pressure while reducing water usage. It also features a shut-off valve, allowing me to scrub up and rinse off efficiently, which is especially helpful when boondocking.

The shower in the 16BH always felt a bit cramped compared to my home shower, and I was constantly bumping my elbows on the walls or shower curtain. The hinged shower rod I added has really expanded the space, making the shower more comfortable in such a small area. After cutting the center rod to 15" and raising it higher than the original straight rod location, installation was a breeze. Now, after showering, I simply angle it back in, and it makes the bathroom feel larger with the curtain closed. It's a win-win!

Because of the textured shower surround, suction cup storage wouldn’t stick, and I didn’t want to risk drilling holes and causing potential water damage. The four L-shaped shelves I added offer great storage space without taking up much room, unlike the bulky triangular versions, and they keep toiletries secure while traveling.

ENTERTAINMENT AREA

I wanted a 12-volt TV that would allow me to watch content from my iPad, play CDs and DVDs when there's no internet for streaming, and have Wi-Fi capabilities. I used the TV mount listed below to make it all work.

Let’s be honest—the air conditioner can get pretty loud, and TV speakers are rarely great. To improve the sound, I added a small soundbar for better audio quality.

Since the designated TV spot in the 16BH wasn’t ideal, I relocated it to the foot of the bed for a more comfortable viewing experience. Check out Relocate Your TV for the Perfect View! for more details on this upgrade.
